Some of the best ideas and creations have come over a couple a pints at the local “watering hole.” Well, it just so happens so did the formation of the GS Croatia. At a bar in Maywood, NJ is the site that two men, Marijan and Geoffrey , sat on some old bar stools watching a match, shooting the breeze. After a few cold ones, some exchange of philosophy and views of the world, the idea of creating a football club was born. Their love of the game, passion for sport, and a team that they could call “theirs” was the impetus to conceive GS Croatia.
Who are the Fathers?
Marijan displays his passion for the love of his team by being a lifelong Dinamo, Zagreb fan as well as always displaying him colors for the Croatian national team. One of his most memorable moments was being in attendance in the May 1990 game of Dinamo vs. Zvezda. Not only a fan but also had the pleasure of being a keeper throughout his youth. He claims to have been one of the best. It smells like cheese. Possibly, Swiss.
As soon as Geoffrey Colon was stable on two feet, he began to dribble a soccer ball. His experiences have been deeply rooted into managing and coaches many clubs in the states.
It’s Alive
Once the idea became a reality, tryouts for the club began. The team management saw over 100 players looking to become a part of GS Croatia. Using his knack for acquiring talent, Geoff chose a group of skilled men, with some great character to put together the 1st Club of GS Croatia.
The club was alive and well and, as we continue to grow, new talent is acquired on a regular basis to fore fill our mission statement. Currently, we are playing in the North Jersey Soccer league. Our Coaches and Captains Brett Bagley and Ryan Sutherland along with our team management, Marijan and Geoff, are committed to build a strong, respectable and successful soccer powerhouse in NJ.

Morris County Colonials
Garden State Croatia FC is certainly becoming a recognized club by the soccer community of New Jersey. Morris County Colonials (http://www.colonialsoccer.com/) who play in NPSL, reached out to us for a scrimmage before their season starts. Colonials are one of the best teams in their league. Giving us the opportunity to scrimmage, shows us our talent and success is noted. We will give Colonials a great game and appreciate the opportunity. the match is on 05/23 with a start time at 9 PM in Montville.
On a separate note, GS Croatia FC is having pretty successful inaugural season. After a rough start of 1:3 in first 4 games, we recruited a few very talented players, including former MLS and European League Pros and ,we currently have a record of 8 wins and 4 loses with +21 goal differential. Soccer Academy
In the spirit to educate and provide skill instruction, we are planning our own GS Croatia FC soccer academy. We are in the planning stages to create a program for children of all ages and soccer clubs throughout the area. Please contact us if you have interest in participating in our academy.
